这三个长得那么像的词和词组

究竟是有关系还是没关系呢？

今天就和大家讲讲line的表达吧！

on line/on the line

on line主要有两个意思。

line有队伍的意思

on line = wait in a line of people

意思就是排在队伍里

另外，on line有在线、上线的意思

就等于online

大家平时登陆QQ或游戏的上线

就是用online表示

而on the line就和上网、排队没关系了

on the line表示处在危险状态、命悬一线

一般是put/lay sth on the line

可以是jobs、career、reputation、friendship等等

也可以用put one‘s neck/oneself on the line

表示把...置于危险的状态

除此之外，

on the line还表示打电话、保持通话

这时候line相当于phone

Eg

This shouldn‘t take much longer—Mom‘s on line to pay right now.

这花不了多长时间，妈妈已经排在付款的队伍里。

By making such a controversial movie, he has really put his reputation on the line.

拍出这样一部有争议的电影，他真是冒着名声尽毁的风险。

line of latitude/longitude

line可以表示两个区域之间人为假设的线

就比如经线纬线，国际日期变更线这类地理名词

或是国界线、州界线这类地区边线

official line

line有观点、态度的意思

相当于opinion/attitude

official line就是官方立场、官方说法的意思

一般指的是国家层面的

而take a tough/firm/hard line on sth

意思就是对...采取严厉态度

Eg

Japan‘s official line is that it does not allow the immigration of unskilled foreign labourers.

日本的官方说法是，不允许非熟练外国劳动力移民。

The school takes a very tough line on drugs.

学校对毒品采取了严厉态度。

out of line

out of line字面看是超过某条线

可以简单地理解成越界、不在一条直线上，

这里的越界指人或某物越过某条线

也可以引申为出格、过分、不合适的意思

可以用get/step out of line表示

Eg

I told you not to get out of line. Now, get back in line.

我告诉过你不要越界，现在回到你的队伍里。

He was out of line when he talked back to his mother.

他跟妈妈顶嘴时有些过分了。
