交会对接，一般是由地面发射追踪航天器，由地面控制，使它按比目标航天器稍微低一点的圆轨道运行，通过霍曼变轨使其进入与目标航天器高度基本一致的轨道，并与目标航天器建立通信关系，追踪航天器调整自己与目标航天器的相对距离和姿态，向目标航天器靠近；最后当两个航天器的距离为零时，完成对接合拢操作，结束对接过程。
