Rumor是“谣言”的意思,rumor has it that表示“人们都这样说”、“听很多人说”。That后面跟听说的内容。虽然道听途说不一定是真的,但至少八卦终于开始了。例如:Rumor has it that he was murdered. (人们都传他是被人谋杀的。)
2. A little bird told me that...
叽叽喳喳的小鸟最是八卦。如果你既想八卦一把,又不愿透露上一位八卦者的真实姓名,那就用a little bird来代替吧!A little bird told me 可以表示我也是听说的,具体是谁不详。 例如:A little bird told me that today is your birthday. (我听说今天是你生日。)
3. Have you heard the latest gossip?
“哎~ 最近有个八卦的事儿你听说了没?” 这句话是很多八卦人士的经典开场,先吊吊你的胃口,接下来八卦话题立刻登场。例如: Have you heard the latest gossip? It turns out Sue is having an affair with Mike.(最近有个八卦话题你听说了没?苏和麦克在搞婚外情。)
4. You won't believe what she just told me.
“她刚才告诉我的话,说了你都不敢信!” 八卦就是要有一个人说给另一个人听。这句话说完,谁都想知道刚才那人到底说什么了?怎么我就不敢信了?后面的话就等着惊呆小伙伴吧!
5. Can I count on you?
如果有人悄悄地找到你,问能否信得过你,他一定有要事相商,或者是想告诉你一个惊天秘密!换句话,他还可以说:Could you keep a secret? (你能保密吗?)如果想跟他八卦下去,你可以说:I won’t tell a soul. (我谁都不会说。);I'll take it to my grave.(我到死也不会说的。)
