stop by/in（顺便）拜访；串门

to visit a person or place for a short time, usually when you are going somewhere else

come by（顺路）串门；拜访

to visit a place for a short time, often when you are going somewhere else

look in on someone串门；顺路拜访

to visit a person for a short time, usually when you are on your way somewhere else

这三个表达都有串门的意思，但一般指顺路拜访。

例句：

I stopped by her place on my way home yesterday.

我昨天回家的时候，顺路去她家串了个门。

drop in/ drop by上门拜访；串门

come round串门；拜访

drop in和come round也是串门的意思，但这两个表达没有强调顺路，既可以指顺路串个门，也可以表示专程拜访。

例句：

Come round tomorrow and we will play Chinese chess.

明天来串串门吧，我们一起下象棋。

“拉家常”的英语是什么？

中国人有事没事都喜欢串个门，和邻居亲友唠几句家常话。聊天的英文是chat，但闲聊还有很多地道的说法。

这是一个英式俚语，意思是漫无目的地长时间闲聊，喋喋不休

have a good natter好好拉家常；好好聊一聊

例句：

My mother and my uncle had a long natter over coffee.

我妈妈和我舅舅喝咖啡的时候，拉了很久的家常。

chit-chat [ˈtʃɪt tʃæt]

chat是聊天，但拉家常更常见的用法是chit-chat.

因为chat可以泛指各类聊天，而chit-chat特指不重要的闲谈。拉家常也主要是在说些无关紧要的家长里短，所以拉家常也可以说chit-chat.

因为肥肉很有嚼劲，以前的人无聊了会塞块肥肉到嘴里嚼，于是chew the fat就有了闲聊的意思。
