二、vital的常用搭配：

1））be vital to 必不可少的

Water，air and food are vital to life. 水、空气和食物对生命是不可或缺的。（此句中be vital to表达的含义是没有water , air and life, 生命无法存在）

2）be vital for 至关重要的

Your help is vital to/ for our success. 你的帮助对我们的成功至关重要。(此句中be vital for 表达的含义是“your help”是“our success”的重要条件【部分条件】，但不是全部条件。)

注：be vital 后接介词to还是for意思略有差别，to表示不可或缺；for表示非常重要。

3）it is vital to do something 做某事是至关重要的

It is vital to be honest with your children.对你的孩子诚实是很重要的。

It is vital to have a correct pronunciation of the word for the beginners.

对于初学者来说知道一个词的正确发音是非常重要的。

若要表示“对某人来说，……是至关重要的”，可以说：it is vital for sb. to do sth.例如：

It is vital for teenagers to have a good knowledge of English.对青少年来说，精通英语是至关重要的。

Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.

4）It is vital that… ……是至关重要的

It is vital that we should keep the safe distance between the front car.

与前车保持安全距离是至关重要的。

It is vital that journalists be allowed to find out for themselves what is going on in Gaza.

让记者们了解加沙发生的事情是极其重要的。(此句中be动词前省略了should)

在“It is (was) 形容词 that……”结构中, 形容词后的主语从句的谓语要使用虚拟语气.具体形式为should ＋动词原形或省略should直接用动词原形（美国英语不用should）

常用的形容词有：natural (自然的),appropriate (适当的),advisable (合适的),preferable (更可取的),better (更好的)* necessary (必须的),important (重要的),imperative (急需的),urgent (急迫的),essential (本质的),vital (必不可少的)* probable (很可能的),possible (可能的)* desirable (极好的)advisable（合理的）,compulsory（必须的）,crucial（紧急的）,desirable（理想的）,essential（必要的）,imperative（迫切的）,incredible（惊人的）,necessary（必要的）,possible（可能的）,strange（奇怪的）,urgent（紧迫的）等。

5）a vital source of something 某物的重要来源

The forest is a vital source of timber.森林是木材的重要来源。

6）something is of vital importance 某事至关重要

7））vital role至关重要(的作用)

Nurses play a vital role in hospitals and surgeries.

护士在医院和外科手术中起着至关重要的作用

It is of vital importance to take action and do something.

至关重要的是我们要采取措施行动起来。

此外，vital capacity 肺活量 ；vital force 生命力,生机；vital signs 生命体征； vital parts (人体的)要害，如心，肺； vital evidence至关重要的证据，vital information重要信息。vital function 〈生理〉维持生命的重要机能，vital organ 生命器官。
