读书期间，接触最早的表示“虾”的英文是shrimp，但小龙虾却不能用这个词表示。

shrimp是指小型的水生有壳动物，可以使用，比对虾小，烹饪的时候会变红。

而电视剧里常出现的澳洲龙虾和小龙虾也不是同一个品种，大龙虾常用lobster来表示。

龙虾的头胸部较粗大，外壳坚硬，色彩斑斓，腹部短小，体长一般在20～40厘米之间，重0.5公斤上下，是虾类中最大的一类。最重的能达到5公斤以上，人称龙虾虎。
