One time l was talking to a Chinese friend on the phone and asked him if he wanted to come out and go to a movie. He was tired and told me that it was time to "hit the bed".  He was tryng to use an idiomatic expression. "Hit the hay" means "go to bed" but unfortu-nately his choice of words literally meant“打床”．
    
一次，我在电话里和一位中国朋友聊天，问他愿不愿意出来看场电影。他很累了，告诉我该“hit the bed（打床）”了，他本想用俚语“hit the hay”来表达上床睡觉的意思，但不幸的是，他选择的词字面意思是“打床”。
